The school has a long tradition of working closely with parents. The first Parents Council was established in 1973. Over the years the Parents Councils have supported many developments. This tradition continues today.
Elected annually, the Council meets in the library on the first Tuesday of every month. Meetings are attended by the Chairperson, Council officers and members. The Principal, Ciaran O’ Hare or one of Deputy Principals, Cerrie Byrne or Catherina McNicholas, usually attend. Two members of the Council are also on the Board of Management ensuring good communication all round.
Members of the Council make a valuable contribution to school life. Parents’ annual voluntary contribution is placed in a separate fund. This is managed jointly by the Council and school management. Projects are agreed on a yearly basis. Recent projects include the purchase of new laptops and tablets for student use within classes; and the development of the school grounds to provide improved amenities for the boys. The Council is also involved in on-going policy development.
The A.G.M. takes place in September and all parents are welcome to attend and become more involved in the working of the school to support their son’s education.
